It is very common to see the advertisements of coaching classes showing that the toppers always come from them. There is a myth that if a student doesn’t receive coaching from the classes, the chance of topping the exam or even getting the respectable marks is nil. But this year’s 12th topper of Punjab Board has disproved this wrong notion. Mahima Nagpal, who comes from a modest background, has topped the 12th exam with an unbelievable score of 99.56{4aae73461effa9263855888e11b82afb29be8624bd70156d49c18cab7ecb130d}. The most interesting part of this story is that she never attended any coaching institute. This means that her studies happened either at home or school. She got the inspiration from her Physics teacher at her school. She further said that the secret behind her achievement is the studies of several hours done at home and school.

The story of Mahima proves this fact that self-studies still hold the key to good performance in exams. The help extended by any external factor like coaching or tutoring is just a support system which can help a student overcome certain problems that the students face. But claiming that only with the help of coaching class, someone becomes a topper is an exaggeration or a marketing statement. The reality is that much depends on the hard work of the student. Mahima’s case is not the isolated case. In the past many such toppers have disclosed that truth behind the false claims made by the institutes.
