Diversity in education is the need of the hour. Our studies in school are more inclined towards the bookish knowledge and the sports take a back seat. Out of seven or eight periods in a day, hardly one period is kept reserved for sports. There is a general mindset of the school that the students come to school for studies and the books should remain the priority during their stay in the school campus. But there is no thought given to the fact that the sports are the integral part of the education. There are many things the students learn practically by playing sports like co-ordination, helping others, leadership qualities etc. Such traits can’t be learnt by reading books alone.
It is understandable that not all students take keen interest in sports and other extra-curricular activities but the school authorities should do everything possible to encourage everyone to participate in such activities. This will only lay the foundation of the balanced personality which is needed in today’s life. It is certain that, eventually, the students will come out of the school after completing certain years of education. Once they come out, they should not only have a certificate of educational qualification but also the skills and confidence to face the challenges of real life situations better.
