What is IELTS? – It stands for International English Language Testing System, which is jointly owned by British Council,University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations and IDP: IELTS Australia. It acts as a linguistic password to the English Speaking Countries like the UK, the US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, NewZealand etc. Besides this institutions across the world recognize the evaluation score of IELTS .As per the current trend, anyone seeking to migrate to above countries must have certain required level of proficiency in English, which is established by the IELTS band score.
Different Versions of IELTS – It consists of two versions.
(1) Academic Version (2) General Version
Academic Version – This version is aimed at those students who intend to take admission in universities and higher institutions located in English speaking Countries. It is also useful for professionals –doctor, nurse, lawyer etc. – who want to practice in above mentioned countries.
General Training – This is intended for non-academic professionals who want to gain experience and also for mandatory immigration purposes.
Who accepts the IELTS score?
The IELTS band score is recognized by over 7000 academic institutions across the world including 3000 institutions in the US. It is also the mandatory requirement for immigration to the countries like Australia, NewZealand and Canada .The cut-off score varies from institution to institution.
Components of IELTS – There are four components of IELTS
(1) Listening (2) Reading (3) Writing (4) Speaking
Listening and speaking modules are common for students of Academic and General Training .However Reading and Writing modules are different for different courses.
Band Scale – IELTS follows the system of nine-band scale .Depending on the performance of the student , he/She is awarded a particular band score. These band scores are indicative of different competence level of examines .

Venues of IELTS – There are 500 locations across 121 countries where IETS is conducted .In India , British Council is a prominent agency which conducts this test at various centers across the country. Tests are conducted throughout the year.
