Common Admission Test,popularly known as CAT, is going to be different this year. It is considered as one of the toughest exam in India.IIM being the prestigious institution wants the best students on their roll. They also know that the managers have to withstand lot of pressure in the corporate world. Obviously they look for the best.
Every year, An entrance exam is conducted to test the aptitude of the candidates. Aptitude is tested on various fronts ranging from mathematical skills,Reasoning, English language etc.CAT is conducted in two stages. The first stage consists of the written test. During this stage the weightage is also given to the past academic performance that includes marks of tenth, intermediate and graduation. Plus the work experience, academic diversity and gender diversity also figure in the merit list. Academic diversity includes extra curricular activities and gender diversity is there to encourage lady candidates. However out of 50 marks 38 marks weightage is given to the written exam and other areas account for 2 to 3 marks each. This emphasizes the need for a robust preparation for the written exam.The first stage concludes with the merit list based on percentiles. And the qualified candidates are sopposed to appear for writing ability test followed by an interview. Maximum marks for writing ability is 10 while Interview accounts for 40 marks. At the end, the final merit list is prepared and the candidates featuring in this list are issued the joining letter. Earlier, group discussion used to be the part of selection process but now it has been scrapped.
The number of candidates appearing for CAT runs into lakhs. This makes the Exam a cutthroat competition. People who enter IIMs come out as a polished managers. The most reputed companies make a beeline in IIMs to absorb them. Sometimes the annual package offers to them crosses the one crore mark. So who would not want to be a part of such mystical institutions.
