Self defence is the best help. CBSE is the first board which has recognized this need and has introduced it as a curriculum in the CBSE affiliate schools. In view of the increasing crime against the women in our socity, it is the need of the hour to empower our girls and women.
Considering the resource crunch in our country, it is not possible to provide security to every woman. But the confidence of self security can be infused by giving them proper physical and psychological training. This will also act as a deterrent for those who think that the women will always be at the receiving end and they can impose their will on the females without any fear.
As per the circular sent to all the schools, all the schools are supposed to have special sessions on self defense for the girl students every week. If needed, they will have to hire instructors specialized in self defense. As a part of the training, the students will be exposed to different dangerous situations and will be taught how to come out of them safely. Students will also be taught several physical skills like karate, judo etc to take on physically stronger opponents.
This is a welcome step of the central board which is entrusted with the responsibility of shaping the mind and body of our future. Over the years we have seen the futility of umpteen rules and acts. A single self defense can prove to more effective than multiple laws. It is hoped that other boards will also follow the suit.
