A Gift is very special for both the giver and the taker. The giver wants to express the extraordinary feelings in the form of gift. The taker feels privileged because of being chosen for this special offering. Traditionally, the gift has been the materialistic objects. The presenter decides and chooses the gift as per the preference of the recipient. Even the occasion chosen for the gift is also decided carefully. Over the period of time, the face of gift has also undergone a paradigm shift.

Let’s first see the benefits of the conventional gifts. The advantage of materialistic gift is that it looks very impressive while being presented. But there is a demerit too. If the occasion involves gifts being given by multiple people, then they get duplicated. For example, a married couple is gifted the same thing by many guests. So to avoid this duplication, a new concept called gift card has come into existence. It gives the freedom to the beneficiary to pick the gift of his or her choice. How does it look like? Is it different from the conventional gift?

The gift card is different from the normal gifts because it can be used to buy something. It comes in the form of an electronic card similar to the ATM card. The card needs to be loaded with the money after which it can be swiped at the purchase terminals as we use our debit or credit card. The concept is gaining popularity with most of the banks offering this facility to the customers. The gift cards of different denominations can be bought. The have an expiry period after which the amount left if any also gets blocked. To buy a card, one need not be the customer of the bank. It can be given in lieu of the traditional gift, allowing the beneficiary to use the same at his will. So, if you want to gift someone with the freedom to choose the object, then go to the nearest bank and pick up the gift card of your choice.
