Gone are the days when the people used to make trips to the government department for a simple work. Those were the days when government officials used to enjoy in their cabins and take their sweet time to dispose the cases.Just as the right to information gave a potent tool in the hand of common people, right to speedy services is going to complement the existing safeguards. Since its a new concept, an analysis is required to find out how this act is going to make the life of people different compared to the past.
Maharashtra is going to become the pioneer in implementing the right to services in favor of the people. Under thiw act every service delivery has been given a time frame. For example birth, death and marriage certificate must be issued within three days. Registration of the property has to happen within 15 days. NOC for password verification needs to be completed within 21 working days.Similarily other services have been assigned different time limits. The most important aspect of this act is that if the time limit is not adhered to ,then the concerned official will be held accountable and there will be a penalty slapped on them.This means a Single penalty will cost them dearly when they get the salary.
It is this provision that will infuse fear in the mind of officials and will force them to behave responsibly.
If this act succeeds in making a deep impact in the government functioning, it can become the revolutionary concept in providing the relief to the common Man. May god bless those who are trying to reduce the suffering of the troubled souls.
