Following are the structures of sentences in Simple Past Tense:

Simple Past Tense: – (structures)

Subject + did + verb1 +object

Subject + verb2  +object

Subject + didn’t + verb1+object

Did + subject + verb1 + object?

Didn’t  + subject + verb1 +object?

Whq. + did  + subject + verb1 + object?

Whq. +  didn’t  + subject + verb1 + object?

 

(I / We / You / They / These / Those / Names = did) 

(He / She / It / This / That / Any name = did)

Negative = (did + not = didn’t)

Examples:-

  • He promised to invite me at his wedding.
  • He did promise to invite me at his wedding.
  • They didn’t call me in the evening.
  • We didn’t draw this picture.
  • Did this plant grow in time?
  • Did you shave today?
  • Didn’t she prove her talent?
  • Didn’t your brother light the lamp?
  • Where did you sleep on Sunday night?
  • When did she get rid of that habit?
  • Why didn’t you think about it?
  • Why didn’t you recognize him?

 

Important: – I told.    I didn’t tell.   You taught. You didn’t teach.       We ran.  We didn’t run.

This tense is also used for a past habit. Example =Every morning Gandhi jee went for a walk.
