Infinitive is an important part of sentence. It is used at different places for different purpose. The identification of infinitive is the word ‘to’. Let’s see how the infinitive can be used at different places. We should always remember that after the infinitive only first form of verb comes.
1. Subject of a Verb-
To always speak truth is difficult (हमेशा सच बोलना मुश्किल है)
In the above sentence, ‘to always speak truth’ is acting as the subject of the verb ‘is’.
2. As Object –
He likes to play cricket. (उसे क्रिकेट खेलना पसंद है।)
In the above sentence ‘to play cricket’ is acting as the object of the verb ‘likes’
3. To Qualify a noun-
This is not the place to live. (यह रहने की जगह नहीं है।)
In the above sentence ‘to live’ qualifies the noun ‘place’.
I have nothing to say.(मुझे कुछ नहीं कहना है)
4. To express purpose-
He came to meet me. (वह मुझसे मिलने आया)
In the above sentence ‘to meet me’ expresses the purpose of the verb ‘came’
We eat to live. (हम जीने के लिए खाते हैं)
