Prevention is better than cure. This saying is equally applicable on the health of people. However, it is easier said than done. In today’s atmosphere, where fast food is catching the youngsters faster, the chance of contracting disease is very high. Too much dependence on vehicle for movement has further deepened this problem. As a result any hospital- private or public- is filled with the ever increasing number of patients. Only difference in the private hospitals is that the queue is not that long due to the hefty fee charged by them.

The role of government is also significant in creating the awareness among the people. The right information can help a few if not all. For instance, the use of toilet at home being publicized by the government is a positive step as open defecation is the cause of so many diseases. Another role meant for the government is to make the health care accessible and affordable to the people, especially belonging to the poor section. Though there are many private hospitals, most of them are there to extract money from the helpless patients or their family members. They have a network which traps the needy and squeezes them completely. Therefore, a common man remains out of the boundary of such hospitals.

Health is certainly the responsibility of every individual because illness affects the person more than anyone else. The people should be conscious of what they eat, how they lead their life for better health. If they falter, which normally happens, it is the government that should extend the helping hand to bail out the people stuck in the web of ailments.
